Subconscious vs. Conscious
I recently learned the subconscious mind processes upwards of 11 million bits per second. Contrarily, the conscious mind processes information at 40 bits per second. Isn't that bizarre? Such a significant disparity. I do find it intriguing that computing power is the metric we use for the brain. Is our brain truly comparable to a computer?
From this evidence, I conclude this:
Your first instinct has a considerably higher probability of being correct than any subsequent thought.
If the subconscious is more powerful, wouldn't it make sense to trust it more? You would think so, but then we run into the overthinking tendency. Our conscious mind intervenes, overriding decisions made by a more powerful entity. It is as if an entry-level employee supersedes the decision of a Fortune 500 CEO. This is completely illogical in the reality beyond our own thoughts.
So I am aiming to trust my gut more often. I will examine this conclusion further as I continue to learn more about the brain and the process of decision-making. As I collect additional information, I will update this post with my findings and insights.
